The tension was palpable
The Golden Globes brought plenty of glitz, glamour, and… tension, as viewers couldn’t help but notice Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson’s reaction when Vin Diesel greeted him on stage.
The two Fast and Furious co-stars have had a famously rocky relationship over the years, and their frosty interactions haven’t gone unnoticed by fans.
As Vin Diesel walked onto the stage to present an award, he casually said, “Hey Dwayne,” but the reaction from The Rock seemed to grab everyone’s attention.
Fans Notice Awkward Energy
Fans were quick to comment on the interaction, with one saying, “You can cut the tension between The Rock and Vin Diesel with a knife.” Another chimed in, “What a little stinker.”
Meanwhile, others pointed out how awkward the moment seemed. One fan wrote, “Lmao, that was lowkey awkward fr.”
This latest public interaction between the two stars has reignited conversations about their well-documented feud, which stretches back several years.
How It All Started
The drama began in 2016 when The Rock posted a cryptic Instagram rant calling out a “candyass” and “chickensh*t” co-star. While he didn’t name names, many assumed the target of his frustration was Vin Diesel.
Diesel later addressed the tension in an interview with Men’s Health, saying that his approach on set involved giving The Rock “tough love” to improve his performance.
“It was a tough character to embody, the Hobbs character,” Diesel explained. “My approach at the time was a lot of tough love to assist in getting that performance where it needed to be. As a producer, I felt it was my job to help him transition from wrestling into this cinematic world.”
The tension reportedly reached a boiling point, leading to The Rock skipping the ninth installment of the franchise.
Vin Diesel’s Public Plea
Despite their fallout, Diesel made headlines in 2021 when he publicly appealed to The Rock to return for the franchise’s grand finale.
In a heartfelt Instagram post, Diesel wrote, “The world awaits the finale of Fast 10. As you know, my children refer to you as Uncle Dwayne in my house. There is not a holiday that goes by that they and you don’t send well wishes… but the time has come. Legacy awaits.”
He also referenced the late Paul Walker, saying, “I told you years ago that I was going to fulfill my promise to Pablo. I swore that we would reach and manifest the best Fast in the finale that is 10!”
The Rock’s Response
The Rock didn’t mince words in his response. Speaking to CNN, he described Diesel’s post as “manipulation” and confirmed he would not return to the franchise.
“I told [Diesel] directly that I would not be returning to the franchise,” he said. “I was firm yet cordial and said I’d always support the cast and root for the franchise’s success. But there was no chance I would return.”
He also expressed disappointment in Diesel’s tactics, saying, “I didn’t like that he brought up his children in the post, as well as Paul Walker’s death. Leave them out of it.”
A Surprising Turn of Events
Despite their strained relationship, The Rock surprised fans with a mid-credits cameo in Fast 10. Reports suggest he’s set to return in a full role for the upcoming eleventh film, leaving fans wondering if the two stars have truly buried the hatchet—or if the tension will carry on behind the scenes.
For now, fans can’t get enough of analyzing every interaction between these two Hollywood heavyweights, and their moment at the Golden Globes only adds fuel to the fire.
